Single-Leg Calf Press (Leg Press)
Muscles worked: Calves.
How to do it
- Sit into the leg press and place one foot on the platform, ball of the foot on the bottom edge.
- Keep the other foot clear of the platform entirely.
- Release the safeties and straighten the leg, but keep a soft knee - this is the calf's job, not the quad's.
- Let the heel travel down for a full stretch, then press through the ball of the foot and hold the top.
- Match the reps on both sides, and let the weaker calf set the number.
Coaching cues
The two cues IronPack shows on this exercise's card mid-workout:
- One foot on the platform edge, the other clear
- Match the reps on both sides - the weaker calf sets them
Logging it
IronPack suggests working in the 10 to 15 rep range, progressing in 5 kg jumps when you own the top of the range. Records are tracked automatically at every rep count from 1 to 12. Check your estimated 1RM from any hard set.
